About Us

Finding Inspiration and Offering Hope

Nampharm Foundation was established as a social responsibility initiative by Nampharm, a Namibian-based pharmaceutical distributor. Nampharm Foundation was established to benefit the children of Namibia. The foundation was founded in 2005 with a specific focus on providing medical treatments for children in need.

Our Story

Since 2005, the Nampharm Foundation, a non-profit social welfare organization, has been
dedicated to transforming the lives of Namibian children. We began by supporting children
battling cancer, but in 2009, we shifted our focus to a critical need: facial reconstructive surgery for children born with cleft lips and palates.

We offer this life-changing surgery free of charge, along with holistic care throughout the child's journey. Our support starts from birth and continues until they turn 18. We work closely with mothers, providing emotional support and reassuring them that their baby's condition is nothing to be ashamed of. We walk alongside these children on their journey to transformation.

By providing access to life-changing surgeries and comprehensive care, we pave the way for a brighter future. This ensures they can confidently step into their communities, be integrated and ready to thrive and embrace all life's possibilities.

Team of Volunteers

The greatest gift we can give a child is the opportunity to be themselves, without fear or shame.

The team is comprised of volunteers with a great depth of medical experience and expertise, and a true passion for bringing joy into the lives of our children.

Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon

“Don't be afraid to fail, be afraid not to try!

Remember, the reason why we’re doing these surgeries is to make the life of others better, to find joy in the smiles of parents, and to see the disbelief on their faces about the transformation of their babies. To know that something meaningful was done for that family."

His motto is "Quid quid agis, prudenter agas, et respice finem"...meaning…whatever you do, do it cautiously, and consider the end, in other words, have the end in mind.

Specialist Maxillofacial and Oral Surgeon

Introducing Dr. Hanre Myburgh, our esteemed Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon. While he steps into our team's journey at a later stage, his involvement is a critical part of our children's path towards a regular life.

He's lent his expert skills to procedures like Alveolar Bone grafts and nasal floor repairs. His meticulous attention to detail is immensely valued.

Dentist

"My passion for Community Social Responsibility Initiatives started at the University of the Western Cape where we had Clinics on Saturdays at the schools of people with Physical Disabilities.

I joined the Nampharm Foundation as I could see a need for a Dental Surgeon amongst a team of very skilled clinicians and specialists who are in private practice but volunteer their time for these children.

His personal feelings... "What makes me happy is to see a smile after surgery of a cleft Lip and palate child"

Dr. Joggie Briedenhann

Specialist Orthodontist

Dr. Joggie Briedenhann has successfully been practicing orthodontics for over 30 years and works extensively with other dental specialists to provide the best service to all his patients. Straightening teeth is but one small part of his expertise. Besides his very busy practice, he has always given a lot of his time to promote and serve the dental community.

When he stepped down as the President of the Medical and Dental Board, he was the longest serving member ever. The NamPharm Foundation fits in very well with his mission of working with and helping children of Namibia. The words of Mark Twain resonates and it is thus true that Joggie doesn’t work a day in his life.... as he LOVES what he does.

I have joined the team because it is my way of supporting the remarkable work that Nampharm Foundation is doing. I am also happy to be part of this journey towards giving these children a brighter future filled with smiles and confidence. I look forward to working together and contributing to the continued success of Nampharm Foundation.

Dr. Tjijandjeua Kandetu

Specialist Paediatrician and Paediatric Intensivist

I decided to join the Nampharm Foundation cleft lip and palate repair initiative because I felt my critical care experience could contribute positively to the post operative care and outcomes of these children. It has been a real pleasure to see parents and caregivers so happy and excited to see their children after a repair in the PICU.

Seeing their reaction makes it all worth it and I am happy to be able to make that small contribution to their lives.  Joining this initiative has been a way of building a legacy, using my time and skills for a greater cause. It is an opportunity for me to create a long-lasting positive change in the lives of children and families affected by cleft lips and palates.

As a Naturopathic Doctor, I am passionate about holistic healing and believe that nutrition plays a critical role in recovery and overall well-being. Volunteering with the Nampharm Foundation would allow me to support children’s post-surgery healing through tailored dietary guidance and complementary care, contributing to their physical and emotional transformation.
