Finding Inspiration and Offering Hope

Nampharm Foundation was established as a social responsibility initiative by Nampharm, a Namibian-based pharmaceutical distributor. Nampharm Foundation was established to benefit the children of Namibia. The foundation was founded in 2005 with a specific focus on providing medical treatments for children in need.

Our Story

Since 2005, the Nampharm Foundation, a non-profit social welfare organization, has been
dedicated to transforming the lives of Namibian children. We began by supporting children
battling cancer, but in 2009, we shifted our focus to a critical need: facial reconstructive surgery for children born with cleft lips and palates.

We offer this life-changing surgery free of charge, along with holistic care throughout the child's journey. Our support starts from birth and continues until they turn 18. We work closely with mothers, providing emotional support and reassuring them that their baby's condition is nothing to be ashamed of. We walk alongside these children on their journey to transformation.

By providing access to life-changing surgeries and comprehensive care, we pave the way for a brighter future. This ensures they can confidently step into their communities, be integrated and ready to thrive and embrace all life's possibilities.

Our Patron

The Former First Lady of The Republic of Namibia, Madame Penehupifo Pohamba has served as the Patron of the Nampharm Foundation since its inception in 2005. As a leader, former nurse, midwife and mother she consistently advocates for the health and well-being of children.

Our Vision

We believe every Namibian child born with facial deformities must have access to safe, high-quality, comprehensive care and can live a full and healthy life and be fully integrated into society.

Board of Trustees

Frederik van der Walt

Founder / Trustee

Frederik, the Director of Nampharm, is a devoted cycling enthusiast. In 2005 Frederik took on the Cape Argus where he had hours of "reflection" time. It was during these introspective moments that he thought about how he and his associates could give back to the Namibian community.

Upon his return, Frederik realized that there were no existing organizations primarily focused on the health issues of Namibian children. This realization sparked an idea, eventually leading to the establishment of the Nampharm Foundation in July 2005.

As an exemplary citizen of Namibia, Frederik embodies kindness and consideration. This trait
shines through in his personal and professional life, shaping his interactions with colleagues,
staff members and the community he loves to serve.

Carol Musarurwa

Manager / Trustee

Since its establishment in 2005, the Nampharm Foundation has been under the diligent leadership of Carol. Serving both as a manager and a trustee, her numerous contributions over the years have cemented her role as a crucial pillar within the organization.

Her nurturing approach has resonated deeply with patients. She is a mother-like figure to patients, a supportive counsellor to their families, and consistently serves to facilitate communication and collaboration between the Nampharm Foundation and its partners.

Carol's empathetic nature has garnered the trust of the community, making families feel comfortable and secure to entrust their children in her care.

Marius Gouws

Trustee

Marius has been a trustee of the Nampharm Foundation since 2019. It was during a crucial time of needing to generate increased funds to sustain our assistance to Namibian children that Marius became deeply engaged with the Foundation. Under the guiding principle that no child should ever be denied or deprived of medical treatment, Marius has been a phenomenal asset.

Marius is the visionary behind the Nampharm Foundation’s fundraising event, namely The Nampharm Foundation Adventure Ride, that was held annually from 2001 till 2019. His unwavering dedication to enhancing the lives of these Namibian children is what fuels his motivation in this field. This has resulted in him creating an amazing network of sponsors and volunteers who are equally committed to this wonderful cause.

"My passion for Community Social Responsibility Initiatives started at the University of the Western Cape where we had Clinics on Saturdays at the schools of people with Physical Disabilities.

I joined the Nampharm Foundation as I could see a need for a Dental Surgeon amongst a team of very skilled clinicians and specialists who are in private practice but volunteer their time for these children.

Dr. Joggie Briedenhann

Specialist Orthodontist

Dr. Joggie Briedenhann has successfully been practicing orthodontics for over 30 years and works extensively with other dental specialists to provide the best service to all his patients. Straightening teeth is but one small part of his expertise. Besides his very busy practice, he has always given a lot of his time to promote and serve the dental community.

When he stepped down as the President of the Medical and Dental Board, he was the longest serving member ever. The NamPharm Foundation fits in very well with his mission of working with and helping children of Namibia. The words of Mark Twain resonates and it is thus true that Joggie doesn’t work a day in his life.... as he LOVES what he does.

A Memorandum of Agreement between the Ministry of Health and Social and the Nampharm Foundation was signed in 2012 for a period of 5 years and has been renewed since then.

A partnership between Rhino Park Private Hospital and the Nampharm Foundation was formed 4 years ago and has solidified over the years.

FirstRand Namibia came on board as an annual sponsor, with the renewal to be considered every year.
