Mwaka was introduced to us at 6 months ( 03/08/2013). Chubby Mwaka was born with a unilateral cleft lip and palate. She was fortunate enough to have her first procedure on the 5th of March 2014.WENDY JONES
Mwaka is a big strong girl now and her cleft palate was closed on the 8th of April 2015. She now just has to attend speech therapy sessions to ensure that she learns to speak normally.
Wendy, will have her first procedure towards the end of September 2014 because she was only born on the 12th of April 2014 and needs to be at a minimum weight of 5kg.
Nicholas was born in Otjiwarongo on the 8th of December 2011.He underwent his first procedure in WIndhoek on Wednesday 5th of June 2013.LUNTALA KUWANAYO
Luntala was born with only a cleft palate on the 10th of December 2011 and her lips were okay. Her procedure for the closure of the palate will be done on Wednesday 8th August, 2014. She currently lives in Katima Mulilo.ROBYN AYESHA RELEZU
Robyn was born on the 25 of June 2012 with a bilateral cleft lip and palate. KOVAANUA UATEKA
Her procedure was done on the 27th of February 2013 and no other is necessary because her palate is closed.
3 year old Kovaanua had her first operation back in 2010 to repair her lip. She has grown to be a very intelligent little girl. MBIRIPOPO KATJINGISIUA
Her cleft palate was repaired during the Operation Smile mission in April 2012.Now she can start with her speech theraoy sessions and grow up to be able to speak clearly.

Ahrehannah was born on the 20th March 2010, with a unilateral cleft lip and an open palate. Ahrehannah had her first her life-changing operation on the 29th September 2010 to repair her lip.EBEN VALOMBOLA
After a few months of recovery, she had her palate repaired during the Operation Smile Mission Week, on the 8th of February 2011.
Now she is walking and learning to talk. We will catch up with Ahrehannah from time to time as she grows.
2 year old Eben was born with only a cleft lip. His palate is fortunately in tact. Eben underwent his procedure to correct his lip on the 11th of September 2013. He will not be needing any further operations and will not even have to go to a speech therapist.
Baby Mujakuree was also born with a cleft lip and palate on the 29th of September 2011 in Gobabis, in the Otjinene Area. HEZWELL HISHIMWENE
Dr Susan Kruger performed the first operation which was to correct his cleft lip on the 23rd of February 2012. His palate was closed on the 19th of February 2014. Now he can relax for the next 8 years or so until his next procedure.
Hezwell was born on the 19th August 2007 with both a cleft lip and palate. He lives with his mum in Grrotfontein. His cleft lip was repaired in March 2010. His lip did not heal properly therefore he underwent another procedure where his lip was corrected and his palate closed. RENEE HARAES
His operation took place at the Windhoek Central Hospital on the 1st of September, where Dr Susan Kruger performed the procedures.
This young enthisiastic boy was also born with club feet but governs his life like a normal boy - playing soccer - which shows how determined and strong he is.
Renee was born on the 24th January 2009 with a cleft lip and palate. AVA DAUSES
Renee had her first operation on the 27th of October 2009 to repair her cleft lip.
The operation to repair her palate was done on Tuesday, 8th of June 2010.
We caught up with her and the family and she is now a very active little girl - full of confidence.
Ava was born with a partial cleft lip on the 16th of February 2012. Her operation was carried out on the 26 of September 2012 and she has recovered fully. TJIUMA VEHUPAKA

Dr Kruger performed his operation to repair his lip on the 28th of May 2010.
All went well
Tjiuma returned to Windhoek in February 2011 to have his palate repaired.
He had a speedy recovery and is now doing very well.
Ndilokelwa, a twin, that was born on the 21/31/2010 has had the encepholecele since birth. Her first procedure was back in 2012. We recently removed the excess skin that was on her frontal part of her face on the 29th of October 2014. She currently lives in Oshakati and now she will fit immediately back into society. Weyulu lip was repaired on the 4th of February 2009 at the Windhoek Central Hospital by Dr Susan Kruger.
He is now a school going boy that one cannot tell unless you look closely that he once had a cleft lip.
Joshua was born with a unilateral cleft lip and palate on the 22nd of April 2010 KATUMUINE TOROMBA
He underwent his first operation on his lip on the 27th of October 2010.
His second operation to correct his palate was done on 8th of February 2011. He is now doing well and we will follow his developmemts over the next few years.
Baby Toromba was born with an encepholecele. The neurosurgeon was waiting to see if the bone behind his nose would grow. Unfortunatley this did not happen so he had to undergo an intense procedure in November involving a neurosurgeon, Dr Myburgh - a maxillofacial surgeon and a dentist. Fortunately the Namibian Ministry of Health and Social Services assisted with the expenses of the operation which was quite costly.
Toromba is recovering well and developing well.
We caught up with Toromba on Monday 3rd of June 2013 and he is doing extremely well.
Sakkie was born at the Windhoek Central hospital on the 29th of March 2011.
Sakkie, who actually live in Grootfontein, had his first operation to correct his lip on the 12th of October 2011. His second procedure to repair his palalte was done in April 2012, by the Operation Smile Team.
Mandume, our little body builder from Oshikango, was born on the 25th of April 2011 with a bilateral cleft lip. His procedure was carried out by the team from operation smile in 2012. Mandume is doing well although he has lost his baby weight.MATHEUS KANGALA
Born on the 9th of May 2011, Matheus has a bilateral clept lip and an open palate.
Matheus went for his first operation on Wednesday 26th October 2011 at the Windhoek Central hospital.
Josephine was born on the 17th of February 2011. The growth on her face was assumed to be a nose deformity until a CT brain scan and MRI was done.KANJOKA KANJOKA
Upon further consultations with neurosurgeons, a plastic surgeon and a maxillofacial - it was decided that the best decision to take is to refer Josephine to hospitals in South Africa for treatment.This decision came about becasue she would need intensive pedeatric care which the hospitals in South Africa specialize in.
Josephine travelled to South Africa and had her life-changing operation on the 14th of December 2011. The operation was sponsored by Operation Smile South Africa under the World Care Program and we sponsored the travelling expenses.
Thanks to the relationships that have been built between the Namibian and South African Ministries of Health. Professor Anil Madaree, Head of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital in Durban, and Medical Director of Operation Smile South Africa (OSSA),performed the surgery free of charge. He was assisted by Neurosurgeon Dr. Peter le Roux.
Josephine is back and she looks completely different and healthy. Now she can continue with life like a normal little girl.
Born in the Oshinene region - Kanjoka was born with a partial cleft lip on the 7th of December 2012. His operation was done on the 9th of April 2013. He does not have a cleft palate so he will not need any further procedures.
Admire - born on the 7th of December 2010 had his first procedure in 2012 for the closure of his cleft lip. Unfortunately, his procedure for the closure of his cleft palate had to be delayed a bit because his teeth were unhealthy and had to be extracted before the palate could be closed.FIDELIS KILLIAN
Fidelis Kilian - born on the 8th of September 2004 - was born with a hole in between his eyes. His mother, Merania, not quite aware of what this condition was - went to the clinic in the northern part of Namibia and was referred to Windhoek. This was back in 2004. He later returned to the north after medication and dressing was given.KAPANKURUA KAMBATUKU
Somebody spotted him and informed some friends and they decided to do everything they could to help him. A committee was set up to raise funds for him.
A press conference was organized on the 11th of September 2009 at the Kalahari Sands hotel. The First Lady of the Republic of Namibia - Madame Penehupifo Pohamba was the Guest of Honour. The purpose of this event was to raise at least N$20 000 to enable Fidelis to travel to South Africa for the operation to repair the hole.
Eventually, a decision was made and the operation was performed here in Windhoek.
After several consultations with the local surgeons,and a CT Scan that was done on the 9th of October,concluded that there would be no need to travel to South Africa for treatment because the local neurosurgeon was qualified to operate on him. A brain CT was then done on the 11th of October 2009.
A decision was made to operate on Fidelis, locally on the 4th of November 2009. The neurosurgeon closed the hole from outside and the plastic surgeon removed 70%of the fluid mass that had collected on the front part of his head.
Meme Merania has dedicated her life to giving him a close to normal life as far as possible.
Baby Kapankurua, was born on the 19th of December 2012 with a cleft lip and palate.Besides the challenges of the cleft lip, baby is doing very well and underwent his procedure in August 2013. DAVELINE FARMER
Daveline, was born on the 23 rd of August 2012, with a bilateral cleft lip and palate. His lip was operated on the 10th of April 2013. Back in Keetmashoop, Daveline is doing extremely well. His procedure to close his palate was done on Wednesday 25th July 2014.TANGI LUNTALA
We will be monitoring him form now on until he is around 10years old.
He is currently doing very well.
Tangi was born on the 30th of March 2012. His parents, both deaf and dumb are doing an excellent job of looking after him. He had his first procedure October 2012. The procedure was performed by Dr Kruger. He will not need another procedure because he does not have an open palate.SIVIRO KUZOTERA
Fortunate to be born on the 23rd of December 2012, only with a cleft lip, Siviro had his one procedure on the 8th of April 2015. He will now grow up normally without needing speech therapy.
Azariah, the cutest little girl that I have seen in ages - was born on the 13t of January 2013. She is doing well and growing quite quickly.
We guided her parents on the how to take care of her and introduced them to Dr Kruger who operated on her at Rhino Park Private hospital on the 23rd of July 2013.HAUSIKU MAKANGA
2 year old Hausiku, was born on the 15th of February 2012 with fortunately, only a partial unilateral cleft lip. He only had to undergo just one procedure which was done on the 14th of May 2014.

Megano just ha to have her cleft palate repaired. Unfortunately, we discovered that she also needs a bit of psycological assessment which she will undergo in 2016. She turns 3 years on the 29th of November 2015.
Johanna, born on the 9th of December 2012 with both a cleft lip and palate, had her first procedure on the 14th of August 2013. Her cleft palate was closed on the 28th of January 2015. She has recovered well.
Aquila, born on the 13th of August 2013,is one of the Namibian children that was born with just a soft palate. Her lip was completely formed. Her procedure was performed on the 25th of February 2015 and she was discharged a week after her procedure to go back to her home in Outjo.
Mikkelson Uwu-haeb, was born on the 19th of September 2009 with a soft cleft palate. He was brought to our attention late February 2014. His procedure to repair his palate was done on Wednesday 19th March 2014.
Aina, our little petite angel from Rundu, was born on the 31st of December 2012 with a unilateral cleft lip and palate.In August 2013, Aina had her first procedure. Her second procedure was done on the 23rd of September 2015.
Memory was born with only a cleft palate which we closed on the 22nd of April 2015. She has recovered well.
Born on the 12th of September 2014, Jackson only had an incomplete unilateral cleft lip which was operated on on the 22nd of April 2015. He has healed well and will not be undergoing any other procedures.
Veta was born with only a cleft palate on the 17th of April 2014. Her cleft palate procedure was done on the 29th of July 2015.
Brave Emelia, had her palate repaired on the 17th of June 2015 when she was only 10 months old - born on 4 August 2014. She has recovered well.
Ndaly was so fortunate as to come to Windhoek at a time when we could accommodate her in theatre earlier than under normal circumstances. She was operated on the 29th of July 2015. She was born on the 4th of December 2014. Her procedures are complete because she only had a cleft lip.
Born on the 13th of July 2010, Veonga inherited some other congenital deformaties but the one that we can help with is the cleft palate. She was going to undergo her procedure in July but unfortunately her poor dental care led us to have to remove all her teeth. Her procedure was done on the 9th of September to close her palate. Now she can undergo speech therapy to enable her to live a normal life.
